Who it’s for

When is Keynote the right choice?

Keynote suits teams on Mac and iPad, and speakers who care how a talk looks and moves on a big screen. Its animation is smooth and its type handling is precise.

It suits Windows offices less well, because people there can only open Keynote files in a browser through iCloud, and custom themes don’t carry over to that version. If decks travel to clients, we export a PowerPoint or PDF copy and check that it holds up.

Inside the theme

What your Keynote theme includes

  • Slide layoutsTitle, section, statement, content, photo, chart and closing layouts, which older versions of Keynote called master slides.
  • Text and object stylesParagraph, chart, table and shape styles saved in the theme, so new content matches automatically.
  • MotionMagic Move and build animations set up on key slides, ready to reuse.
  • A .kth theme fileDouble-click it on a Mac, choose Add to Theme Chooser, and it appears under My Themes.

Questions

Questions about Keynote presentation design

Question not here? Send it to us and we will answer it directly.

Ask a question

Can colleagues on Windows open our Keynote decks?

They can view and edit Keynote files through iCloud in a web browser, signed in with an Apple Account, but they can’t install your custom theme there. For mixed teams, we can design a matching PowerPoint template as well, so everyone starts from the same look whatever computer they use.

Does the theme reach our iPads too?

It can. When a custom theme is saved on a Mac signed in to an Apple Account with iCloud Drive turned on, Keynote makes it available on the other devices signed in to the same account. Each colleague on their own account installs the .kth file on their Mac once.

Is a Keynote theme a big job?

It comes down to how many layouts and styles you need, the amount of custom animation, and any extras such as a matching PowerPoint version or finished decks built from the theme. A focused theme for one speaker takes far less work than a company-wide set. Each part appears separately on your quote.

Can you add motion without it feeling gimmicky?

Yes. Magic Move animates objects that appear on consecutive slides, so a chart can grow or a product can turn without complicated effects. We use it to show change or sequence and keep everything else still, so that when something moves, the audience knows it matters.

Have a Keynote deck already?

Share it with us, even if it began life as a stock theme. We can rebuild it on your new theme, tidy the layouts and keep the content and running order you have rehearsed, so the talk you know by heart still works on the night.

Tell us who presents, where the slides will be shown and whether colleagues use Windows as well as Mac. Send your brand fonts and a recent deck. We price the theme and any decks as a fixed quote, then begin your Keynote presentation design.
